Mod’Art International and Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) in partnership with The Embassy of France will be unveiling the collections of international graduates from diverse nations this July. The event titled International Graduate Fashion Spectacle (IGFS) will be a platform for both local and foreign designers to exchange their creative ideas and learn more about the field.
As such a designated team of graduating fashion designers from Sri Lanka will also be showcasing their collections. IGFS will therefore be a catwalk show and an exhibition showcasing the creativity from participants representing France, UK, Germany, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The inaugural event will be held during the ongoing French Spring Festival in Colombo.
Speaking at a press conference held recently to announce this event, Niroshani Leanage, Managing Director at LIFT said that this event is not only about fashion. “It is an event that will strengthen the partnership between countries and it will also be a learning experience for all participants. Sri Lankan graduates for instance will showcase their creative designs which are uniquely based on local concepts. Hence we will be able to highlight our resources and our touch of locality. During the event, the selected international designers will be introduced to a range of experiences including apparel factory visits, local craft workshops, conferences, city tours, fashion exhibitions and the exclusive fashion show.”
In his comments, Jean-Philippe Gavois, Cultural Councillor at The Embassy of France said that the French Spring Festival has showcased fashion, art and tourism. “LIFT and Mod’Art International has succeeded in strengthening the relationship between the two countries and I’m proud of it. The French Spring Festival brings down various French artistes to introduce their creativity to the locals and the upcoming performances by Gala Swing Quartet are much anticipated.”
